Better Connected?
Our Chief Executive Richard Dilks gave evidence to the Transport Select Committee at Westminster earlier this month.
The session was focussed on the Government’s recent ‘Better Connected’ integrated transport strategy and we were pleased to be invited to give evidence and so to be able to talk shared mobility specifics in the wider context of integrated sustainable transport options for people.
There was a strong consensus among the panellists about the need for a version 2.0 of the strategy which could make more connections between modes and have some firm plans, progress to which could then be measured.
Dundee City Council was allocated £14.4 million from the UK Government’s Levelling Up Fund and £1.6 million from the Scottish Government’s Active Travel Infrastructure Fund to transform the multi-storey car park to a multi-modal hub.
The ground floor of the development is now being managed by Angus Cycle Hub CIC providing:
indoor bike skills track with cycle skills training
bike shop and cycle service centre
bike recycling facilities
cargo bike and e-bike loans
secure bicycle parking and storage
a space for community events
The hub also offers space for the car club and well is linked to bus stops.
In May we signed a joint letter to the government calling on them to invest in shared, public and active transport to bring down rising travel costs, reduce congestion, and improve public health.
We also delivered the letter to Downing Street in person alongside Cycling UK and the Campaign for Better Transport.
The letter outlines a series of measures to offer people more sustainable transport options, including developing mobility hubs that bring together different sustainable travel modes and creating a national programme to scale shared mobility to expand access to shared cars, e‑bikes and e‑cargo bikes.
With Sir Keir Starmer's resignation, there is an opportunity for a new Prime Minister to refresh transport policy and bring in some of these solutions. The suggested measures wouldn't just reduce emissions and our dependence on private cars - they would also save households money, improve peoples' health, and support growth. If you’d like to support the letter, you can email your MP using this online tool.
Welcome Q-Park: driving mobility hubs
We are delighted to welcome parking operator Q-Park as our latest members. In their guest blog post, they explore how secure, off-street car parks provide the perfect physical and digital foundation for future mobility hubs, helping cities reduce congestion and reclaim vital kerbside space.
The 2025 CoMoUK shared micromobility annual report is out!
Dive in to all the latest stats in this growing sector via our shared micromobility report. This is where you can uncover why people use shared bikes/e‑bikes and shared e‑scooters, how often they use them, who they are, where they are.
You can also see the impacts in terms of users’ use of other sustainable modes, their physical and mental health.
To complement our suite of guidance on car club development we have compiled examples of promotional tricks and tools used across the UK. The new guide showcases approaches taken by operators, community groups and authorities to boost take-up and use of shared cars.
It is great to see the range of innovation to tackle the difficult task of asking people to switch to pay-as-you-drive access over ownership. From the use of local influencers, to competitions, name your local car club vehicle, and try-out days to overcome barriers, there are many ideas to share.
The topic is one we will explore in our next Shared Transport Webinar on Thursday 9 July. This session is only open to authorities, community groups and members: please email info@como.org.uk if you would like to join.

Shared transport user quote of the month:
"I really love the local bike/scooter share scheme. It’s an efficient and affordable way to travel as well as benefiting my physical and mental health. I would not be cycling again if it wasn’t for the scheme."
